You need a referral for your account to be reimbursed by Medicare. Without a refferal you will have to pay the full fee for the consultation.

Some conditions are urgent and require attention within a week. If your doctor decides that your appointment cannot wait, then the referral should reflect this so an appropriate time can be arranged.
